Oops, I forgot to Post How Much Money I Saved Last Month

... and the month before that, and the month before that. Clearly, you all were paying rapt attention.

Ah well, I know you still love me—and even if you don't, I'm going to pretend that you do. It's not you, it's me.

Jumping back to October... I know, but forget September, it's gone. We couldn't save it. There's nothing we can do. We have to move on.

[Total savings: $1,440]

I honestly don't remember much about October. I barely remember yesterday. Thankfully, I wrote stuff down. Most of these savings come from buying stuff, as opposed to paying stuff off.

October

Week 1: (We saved $402)

  • Continued to save on our Internet service (because we switched to TWC over AT&T)—[$12 savings per month]
  • Continue to save on purchased modem instead of leasing from Internet provider @ $10/month in perpetuity—[$10 savings per month]
  • Bought coffee on sale & stocked up [$8 savings]
  • Took lunches to work. We started making healthier lunches with slightly more expensive ingredients, but the average cost isn't too far from what we were saving with less expensive ingredients— [$25 savings]
  • I'm sure I used ibotta* for something
  • Made skyr (Icelandic yogurt)—[$11 savings]
  • Made granola—[$10 savings]
  • Propagated plants from cutting—[$20 savings]
  • Turned the A/C off—
  • Got 5¢ off per gallon of gas (10 gallons)—[$0.50 savings]
  • Used a coupon for free trial meds—[$285 savings]
  • Continued to make coffee at home (I've sort of stopped calculating this on the monthly level)
  • Accidentally watched a video & earned a whopping 10¢
  • Used Kohl's cash—[$20 savings]
  • Got flu shots at Target so we could get the $5 gift cards.

  • SavingStar coupon—[$1.50 added to my account]
  • Went to my first ever estate auction & bought over $1,000 worth of stuff (tools mostly & some books) for $140. Did I need it all? Probably not, but seriously! $140! & I got a $400 air compressor, a barely used Craftsman router, a serious looking axe, shovels, rakes, a bunch of pipe clamps, a mess of drill bits & blades, files, and oh my, I think I need to sit down. [$500+ savings]
  • I bought a greenhouse kit on sale through Jet.com & got $25 in Jet cash to use later. The greenhouse cost me $520, but I saved about $100. Also I used Ebates or CouponCabin (I can't remember which) for add'l cash back—[$100 savings]
